Friends of Strays

Friends of Strays is St. Petersburg’s oldest no kill animal shelter. Through outreach, advocacy, and services they strive to ensure that animal companionship is accessible to all. In addition to pet adoption, they seek to create a better world for pets and people by focusing on life saving programs promoting pet retention, community empowerment, and humane pet ownership education. Please consider donating, adopting or fostering from Friends of Strays Animal Shelter. What they are doing would not be possible without the help of our community. Donate to Friends of Strays

The Purple Leash Project: Keeping Pets and People Together!

October is Domestic Violence Awareness month. LivWell Pet Care supports The Purple Leash Project and its mission to help abuse survivors and their pets escape and heal together.

1 in 3 women and 1 in 4 men experience domestic abuse in their lifetimes.

Only 15% of domestic violence shelters accept pets.

As a result, 48% of survivors delay leaving because they can’t take their pets with them.

Through the Purple Leash Project, Purina and RedRover are helping to transform more domestic violence shelters throughout the U.S. into pet-friendly sanctuaries.
